Football

The children enjoyed a great PE lesson on the field today with our sports coach, choosing between dodgeball or football. The football was thrilling to watch – we have some amazingly talented footballers in class 4. I hope the game at Wembley this Sunday is as good! Player of the Match goes to Owen Robinson. Not only is Owen an outstanding footballer, he is a great team player too. Well done.

Police visit

 

Community police officers Sophie and Joel paid us a visit this afternoon. They talked to us about anti social behaviour both in and out of school. They encouraged children to make sensible choices about their actions and words and to contribute positively to our community. The children listened well and asked sensible questions. I am sure they will follower the officers’ advice.

Class 4 girls’ football festival

 

 

On Wednesday, some of our Class 4 girls took part in a football festival at the Beacon of Light. They drew a match, won 2 matches and lost 2 matches. They had a great time and represented St Leonard’s perfectly with their effort and behaviour.

Own Clothes Day

Tomorrow, the children are permitted to come to school in their own clothes. We ask that they donate a bottle or some chocolate to contribute to our summer fayre.

 

First Holy Communion

Best wishes to our Class 4 children that are taking their First Holy Communion this weekend. Please take lots of photos to share with Mrs Snaith who has to be in Glasgow this weekend and will miss the service.

This week

The children have worked really hard this week. We have produced some lovely recounts in the form of a newspaper article about an event in Kensuke’s Kingdom. After editing, they will be written up to look just like a newspaper report.

In maths we have been working with money; ordering amounts and looking at some problems. Some of the children would benefit from a bit of practice adding different amounts of money together or working out how much change from a given amount.

In PE we have had a double treat this week. On Tuesday, a coach from St Aidan’s came to play rounders with us then ion Friday, we continued our outdoor adventures topic. With the lovely weather it has been great fun this week.

Our focus this week has really been preparing for the children’s First Holy Communion this weekend. We have visited the church to practise where we are going to be sitting and standing, we have practised our reading and and our singing.

 

Rounders!

Today we had a real  treat – St Aidan’s came and lead Class 4 in a game of rounders. The ball skills practised last term really came in handy and some of the throwing and catching was excellent.

Rounder’s Tournament

Unfortunately the Rounder’s Tournament planned for tomorrow has been cancelled. Those children selected to attend will therefore not need any PE kit or drinks.

Making Poo!

Today the children recreated the digestive system. Millie added water to our food and squished it to simulate digestion starting in the mouth. Logan held the ‘stomach’ whilst Emily added orange juice to represent the acid. Logan really squished the ‘stomach’ showing how the acid and the muscle contraction aids digestion. Luke emptied the stomach into the small intestine, held by Henry. Orla and Sophie showed how the nutrients secrete through the intestine wall. Connor moved the unused food into the large intestine. Luke had the pleasure of forcing the waste out of the other end. The children were truly disgusted and excited in equal measures.
